Don’t Go

After the memorial service of my very special cousin Bob, we were driving back to the hotel. My daughter turns to me and says sweetly, “I’m so glad that you are never going to die.”  Please understand that my daughter is an intelligent adult with a career and friends and No Delusional Disorder. I looked at her and she continued, “It’s a relief to know that.”   I think, in that moment, my daughter Keira captured the pain of loss, of separations, maybe of this whole life business.  We just don’t want to lose the people we love. We are anxious about loss. It is frightening. We want the one thing that we can’t have – keep all the people we love healthy and nearby.
