Gold Medal In Discipline At The Olympics

I’ve watched enough of the Olympic Games to be astounded by the feats of all the athletes, not just those who are going home with medals. I doubt that I could count high enough to cover the combined hours that have been spent in gyms, pools, fields,

ranges, doctors’ offices and depressive episodes.

However, in my more cynical, practical moments, I wonder how backward tumbling on a balance beam or throwing a javelin will help these folks later on (hmmm, that could be an amusing post) BUT WAIT, I hear you say that it is the training and discipline and confidence that will serve them well forever.

If that’s the case, I have 2 contenders for a special, GOLD Medal Closing Ceremony Award in the new category, “Most Disciplined”. Please feel free to vote for your favorite.

1. Kate Middleton – She has managed to look natural and interested in every sport, including those that would lull the rest of us to sleep………………………. or

2. The Women of the US Olympic Team – This group has never once been caught pulling their sparkly, stretchy uniforms out of their butts.

My instincts are leading me to the Olympic gymnasts. After all, we’ve all seen people like Kate who are able to smile through mind-numbing meetings, be gracious during absurd conversations and stay interested during the most peculiar family gatherings. But, not yanking on your uniform when it creeps up your tush! That’s impressive. That’s discipline. That is certainly a skill that will serve them forever.
