Neuroticism and Celebrity Obsession

The top 10 posts from the last 2 years. I know that everyone else does this as a beginning-of-the-year thing in January, but…..

I was surprised to see which posts received the most hits.

Here is # 8 (drum roll, please)

Personality tests (using the NEO PI-R, a standard test) with people who worship celebrities consistently show high neuroticism.  In this instance, neuroticism refers to people who experience a lot of anxiety, moodiness, worry, envy and jealousy, anger, self-consciousness, depression and who are likely to worry too much about situations.  This finding reveals the darker

side of celebrity obsession, especially for those who experience a deeper, more intensely personal attachment to

a celebrity.  It is not clear whether neurotic traits predispose people to become increasingly absorbed with celebrities or vice-versa but, it is cause for concern.
